The Collierville Burch Library staff constantly looks for ways to enrich their patrons’ lives with new information and instruction. The workshops they offer cover a wide range of interests, and often bring in local instructors.
Julie Knowles of the Collierville Arts Academy held a workshop on cell phone photography in the library’s storytelling room on March 17.
Knowles began by explaining the format of the workshop – she would demonstrate the basics of using a cell phone camera and then progress on to more advanced techniques. She encouraged attendees to jot down notes on anything that particularly interested them, and she would return to those subjects later. After covering the basic photo styles available on cell phone cameras, Knowles sent her students into the library for 5 minutes to practice. When they returned, Knowles guided them in tweaking their photos by use of the editing techniques available of the phone cameras.
Knowles and other staff members from the Collierville Arts Academy periodically partner with the Collierville Burch Library in doing workshops in their areas of expertise of fine arts. Other workshops and events that are listed on the library’s “upcoming” calendar include a workshop on using Pinterest, a demonstration of vex robotics, instruction in resume writing and a musical presentation of the story Creepy Carrots. The library produces these events by both using in-house talent and partnering with businesses and associations within the surrounding community.
