The Friends of the Morton Museum of Collierville History in support of the restoration of Frisco’s steam locomotive 1351 located in Collierville’s Town Square, invite artists to submit original interpretations of the Frisco 1351. A $500 dollar first place prize will be awarded, according to Ms. Kay Stamps, president of the Friends of the Morton Museum.
This juried contest also will include second place award of $250 dollars, and a third place award of $100 dollars.
“We are so honored to have this historic locomotive on our town square, but it must be restored in order for the entire community to enjoy it in years to come”, Stamps said. “This represents a part of early railroading history that helped develop Collierville and the surrounding area.”
Winning works will be exhibited in the Morton Museum’s annual Community Artist Retrospective exhibition starting in November. The first place selection will be reproduced into signed, numbered prints and sold to raise money for the restoration of engine 1351.
Participants must be 13 years or older by August 1st to participate. The deadline for entries will be October 2, 2017 by 5:00pm CST.
Complete details including requirements for the artwork, entry procedures, notification, judging criteria and entry form are available on ColliervilleMuseum.org or call 901-457-2650.
