Collierville’s Harrell Theatre is experiencing a New Year’s “fixer upper”. The community theatre and home of hundreds of seasonal productions, summer camps and special events is being updated with new seating and flooring.
The Harrell Theatre opened in 1987 and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2017. The current seats in the theatre are the original seats and over the years have experienced the normal wear and tear of a popular venue. The installation of the new 354 padded and upholstered seats is taking place during the first two weeks in January and new carpeting will be installed in the early spring. The cost of the new seating is $73,200.
“The new seating will be a much needed and timely update to the theatre. Over the past 30 years the current seats have become worn and the padding has lost its support,” said Greg Clark, Director of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Cultural Arts. “The updated seats and flooring should all be in place in time for our spring theatre season.”
In February, the Diary of Anne Frank will be the featured production at the Harrell Theatre. Show dates for this poignant play are February 16-25, 2018, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00pm and Sundays at 2:30pm. There will be school matinees at 10:00am on February 20 and 21. Lorraine Cotten is directing.
The Collierville Arts Council (CAC) has tickets here. In July, the CAC will present Beauty and the Beast July 13-22, 2018 for a total of 9 shows.
