The Codes Enforcement Division of the Development Department is responsible for the administration and implementation of the Town's adopted construction codes, Zoning Ordinance and Town Code. Codes Enforcement is further divided into the two branches of Construction Codes and Codes Compliance. Construction Codes is charged with the responsiblity of permitting, review and inspection of all new construction within the Town. Certified plans examiners and inspectors monitor the design and construction of all structures to insure the built environment in which we live, eat, shop, play, worship and visit all meet design standards for life safety and property protection.

Fence Permits

What do I need to obtain a permit and how do I get it?

Step 1. Visit the Code Compliance office at Town Hall's east entrance, 500 Poplar View Parkway, between 7am and 4pm, Monday through Friday.

Step 2. A Code Compliance officer will discuss the proposed location, type fence and answer any questions you have.

Step 3. A plat of your property will be obtained and you will be required to draw the proposed fence location on it.

Step 4. You will be required to complete the identification portion of the permit and sign it.

Step 5. The cost is $35.00 for a residential permit and $50.00 for a commercial permit. Cash or personal checks are accepted.

Step 6. You will be furnished a copy of the permit for your records.

Recreational Vehicle Parking

Are there restrictions on parking or storing recreational vehicles?
Recreational vehicles may not be parked or stored nearer the street than the front of the principal structure, except for a loading or unloading period of 24 hours during which it may be parked anywhere on the property.

Weeds and Grass

What can be done about overgrown yards and lots?
Every owner or tenant of property shall periodically cause to be cut the grass or other vegetation commonly recognized as weeds on his property. This vegetation is in violation of the Town Codes on parcels within a developed area when it reaches a height of six (6) inches and within an undeveloped area when it reaches one (1) foot. A grass complaint may be filed with the Office of Code Compliance by calling 457-2310 and any existing code violation will be corrected.

Complaints

How do I file a complaint concerning a violation of zoning codes?
Any complaint concerning the violation of zoning codes may be submitted to the Office of Code Compliance at 500 Poplar View Parkway, Collierville TN 38017 phone number 457-2310. This may be done in person, by mail, or by phone. This complaint does become a matter of public record. However, anonymous complaints are accepted and investigated to determine the validity of the complaint and appropriate action taken.
